The Dog Days Of Summer

With summer time in full swing, many fishing opportunities are presenting here in the Sunshine State. These warm Florida temperatures get the snook moving from their backcountry bays out towards the beaches and offshore waters to spawn, offering fly anglers many ways to target this predatory game fish. From sight fishing along our many beautiful beaches to blind casting through lush, mangrove-covered shorelines, these fly anglers can expect a thrilling experience as they cast from sun rise to sun set.

As bait pods migrate down the coast, sight fishing with small baitfish imitations such as the HBH Minnow or a Crooked Looker in lighter colors is sure to catch the attention of the coveted snook.

Snook that are under the mangroves might require a different technique and pattern, such as blind casting a Foxy Gurgler. This can help trigger some very aggressive strikes, fueling the adrenaline junkie within every angler.

Another great search pattern for fishing in the mangroves is the Night Stocker. The unique deer hair head helps move a lot of water from its path, allowing the snook to locate the fly easily and strike.

The hot days bring the water temperatures up drastically, and with these increased temps comes a large influx of baitfish into our surrounding waters. From Mullet and Pilchards to Menhaden, Mojarra and Pinfish; the list goes on when it comes to why baitfish flies are great options to have in the fly box during these priceless summer days.
